Specialty G18 Geodesy and Land Management

The 'Geodesy and Land Management' educational program is a vital component of the country's economy. It trains specialists in geographic information systems and technologies (a rapidly growing field of information technology), geodetic surveying and land management, land-resource administration, construction, cartography, agriculture, meteorology, environmental protection, municipal administration, defense, logistics, and related fields.

Space monitoring of the Earth

Specialty E4 Earth Sciences

The 'Space Monitoring of the Earth' educational program is unique in Ukraine. It covers the entire technological process—from acquiring data from aircraft (including unmanned aircraft) and spacecraft to processing and interpreting it for military, construction, agricultural, administrative, environmental, healthcare, educational, and other applications.

DEPARTMENT 407

Department of Geoinformation Technologies and Space Monitoring of the Earth entersto the faculty of rocket and space engineering in KhAI. Head of the department - Candidate of technical sciences, associate professor, Alexander Greben.

The Department 407 is equipped with modern computer and geodetic equipment, including its own station for receiving remote sensing data from satellites NOAA.

The department also has a license to use the most powerful and modern software package of the company Esri to analyse geoinformation data, processing of satellite images, as well as the creation and processing of map data - ArcGIS

The teachers of the department systematically receive intensive training courses in Vancouver Island University (Canada)

HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT

The department was founded by an outstanding figure and innovator in the field of geoinformationtechnology, Professor, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Laureate of the State Prize ofUkraine - Krasovsky Hryhoriy Yakovych, who has been working towards this goal for 18 yearssince the opening of the specialty in 2004.

The first intake of students in the direction of 'Geodesy, Cartography and Land Management' was held in 2004. Then the specialty was based on the department of the Faculty №5 'Radio-technical systems of aircraft'.

In 2008, together with the first graduation of bachelors, the first batch masters and specialists in the field of geoinformation systems and technologies were recruited.

In 2013, a new specialty 'Space Monitoring of the Earth' was accredited.

2On November 20, 2016, the KhAI was restructured. A new Department of Geoinformational Technologies and Space Monitoring of the Earth appeared on the basis of Faculty №4 'Rocket and Space Technology'.
