Delegation of the Department of Geoinformation Technologies and Space Monitoring of the Earth consisting of students: Denys Saul-Goze, Roman Sych (group 452m), Mykhailo Levchenko (group 442), Yelyzaveta Malysheva (group 445), postgraduate student Kateryna Iliukhina and the Head of the Department Stanislav Gorelyk took part in the International Conference "GEOPOINT 2024" on 7 and 8 March 2024, organised by the Faculty of Land Management of the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine (Kyiv).
The conference was devoted to modern methods in geodesy and land management, assessment of damage from military aggression, topical issues of topographic and geodetic surveys, etc. Interesting master classes were held with GeoFix and ELnav on the principles of operation and possibilities of using the SLAM R100 laser scanner and i89 GNSS receiver in the field. The students of the department made presentations in the plenary and sectional sessions.
Before the start of the conference, a very long-awaited and warm meeting took place between students and teachers who, due to the military invasion, were unable to communicate and study in person. The last time they all saw each other at KhAI was in the autumn of 2021. It was also a pleasure to speak for the first time in 2 years in a crowded audience, where the interested eyes of the conference participants looked at you. I would like to thank all the participants and organisers of the conference, and congratulate those for whom this was their first such experience on the start of their scientific career.

In light of the recent events at the university and in the surrounding areas, I would like to note that the university is alive and well and continues to work. Recently, the Department 407 held master's thesis defenses. The students proved themselves to be the best, covering in their research both the most pressing problems of our country and the most pressing issues for the whole world. Here is a summarized list of the research areas submitted for defense:
- predicting the negative effects of mudflows;
- use of GIS in land inventory;
- determining the areas of storm surges;
- creation of digital twins in the structure of the WEB-application;
- determination of coverage by shelter zones depending on the type of ballistic missiles;
- modeling the development of recreational facilities;
- solving geomarketing problems;
- modeling the consequences of fires;
- analysis of the coverage of electric vehicle charging stations;
- monitoring of emergencies related to flooding;
- monitoring of ocean pollution by plastic waste;
- building mapping models using artificial intelligence;
- use of GIS technologies in planning the areas of reconstruction of Kharkiv;
- assessment of damage caused by military operations based on remote sensing data;
- change of logistics in the conditions of war;
- assessment of the possible negative consequences of the enemy's use of a tactical nuclear strike;
- determining the trend of changes in the ecological state of water bodies in the Kherson region; determining the condition of forest plantations based on remote sensing data;
- assessment of the possibilities of using rivers as an alternative to destroyed roads;
- methodology of forming an educational network of the territorial community using GIS technologies;
- use of remote sensing data to select a land plot for the construction of sanatorium and rehabilitation centers.
I would like to thank the newly minted masters for the time we spent together, to say that the department is 100% confident in them and to wish them success in all areas of their lives in the future, harmony, and pleasant excitement and emotions, not from explosions and news reports as it was the last two years. You have forever become a part of the big KAI family. Remember this and that you are always welcome here. We are also proud that our university and department will be represented by people like you, so may you be blessed with good fortune and everything will be fine. We wish you inspiration and take care of yourself!

Today, the representatives of the National Aerospace University "Kharkiv Aviation Institute" held a career guidance meeting with 11th grade students of the Zmiiv community. The university staff continues the programme of introducing the educational opportunities of the Kharkiv Aviation Institute to the high school students of the region, and this was the 10th visit to the cities of Kharkiv region. The event was attended by about 60 pupils from the 1st and 2nd lyceums of the city, as well as Zidkivskyi and Chemuzhivskyi lyceums. As a representative of our department, the event was attended by Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor of Department 407 - Andreev S.M.
This event was made possible thanks to the cooperation of the university administration with the Department of Education of the Zmiiv City Council and was organised by the Department of Pre-University Education.
The KHAI faculties presented a variety of exhibits that captured the imagination of schoolchildren and contributed to deepening their knowledge of the aerospace industry and study opportunities at the university. Among the exhibits were: 3D scanner, compressor and turbine blades, centrifugal compressor, aircraft engine piston, model of a robot on a tracked chassis, pyrometer, smart home, sun tracking station, laboratory model with functions of a real CubeSAT satellite a model of a rocket, VR glasses, as well as a demonstration of in-house software development using the Unity IDE, Rider, and the AR Foundation framework on the example of the SEB-AR augmented reality application, and the generation of an image of a student of the future by Lexica Aperture and Deep Dream Generator neural networks. This meeting gave students the opportunity not only to get acquainted with technological innovations and achievements in the field of aviation and astronautics, but also to receive comprehensive information about study opportunities and future careers at the aerospace university.
2021
From November 30 to December 2, 2021, the International Business Convention "Aerospace & Defense. Meetings Torino", which took place in Turin (Italy). The forum was attended by representatives of various companies and manufacturers of the aerospace and defense industry. Many models of unmanned aerial vehicles, space probes, virtual reality systems, etc. were presented. Representatives of the department had the opportunity to meet, establish business relations and discuss new projects in the field of remote sensing of the Earth and GIS technologies. Such conventions are aimed at establishing ties between government, business and science. In parallel, conferences were held, where leading specialists in the aerospace industry, as well as representatives of the European Parliament, spoke. In total, more than 250 companies from more than 25 countries of Europe, Africa, North and South America, Asia and Ukraine took part in the convention.

2019
On the November 13, the Department of Geoinformation Technology and Earth Space Monitoring celebrated the International GIS Day, which was attended by representatives of universities and organizations that are good friends of the department.
Students of our university and other universities of Kharkov gave a presentation on scientific achievements in the field of GIS and spoke about new trends in modern geoinformation technologies.
Our holiday was not only official but also entertaining. The students of the department presented creative videos about their fun life and difficult studying at the university. Traditionally, еach academic group had a chance to express themselves in the culinary competition. Totally, this year were 7 unusual skillful and creative cakes onon the "GIS" thematics were presented. None of the participants were left with a bad mood. Certificates with special design will remind our students about the unforgettable GIS-2019 holiday!
